Walking in Truth and Light: Psalm 43
“1) Vindicate me, O God, and plead my case against an ungodly nation; O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! 2) For You are the God of my strength; why have You rejected me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? 3) O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places.” Psalms 43:1-3
During this Psalm, David was still reeling from the oppression of King Soul who was continually trying to destroy him. This relentless attack affected David physically, emotionally and spiritually. This time frame in his life represented his personal “Job” experience.
He went through the pits while enduring relentless personal attacks from both Saul and Satan. However, David did not know or understand the full spiritual warfare being waged against him.
God was raising David up become the linage through which the Messiah would come. The kingdom was being transferred from the fleshly kingdom of Saul to the God ordained kingdom of David. (Read 1 Samual 8-31 for context and background)
According to Psalm 43:3, during his pilgrimage of oppression, David asked God for two things. He needed Gods light and Gods truth to lead him one step and one day at a time. As long as David walked in light and truth he knew he would safely arrive at his destiny.
We seldom understand the warfare being waged against and around us in the unseen spiritual realm. Paul talked about it in Ephesians 6:12. We do not wrestle against mere flesh and blood. We are caught in an unseen battle between two kingdoms.
God gave both David and Paul the wisdom and insight to walk in light and truth. When you compare Ephesians 4:21-24 with Ephesians 5:7-13, you suddenly stare into Psalm 43:3. You discover the importance of truth and light.
No matter what trials the enemy hurls against you, ask God to lead you into His truth and light. Run into the presence of the Almighty. Gird yourself with truth and walk in the light.
