Unashamed: Luke 22:54
“54) Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance.” Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭54‬ ‭
Following Jesus at a distance does not work. It is rooted in cowardice and denial. Neither does it work to be a “secret disciple” of Jesus. (John 19:38) This is rooted in fear.
In the case of both Peter and Joseph of Arimathea, they were exposed. At some point in your walk with Jesus, you will need to take a bold stand.
It may be a natural progression of spiritual growth, but at some point you need to cross the line and become unashamed of Jesus Christ. The sooner the better. (See Romans 1:16-17)
Taking a public stand and confessing Jesus before men not only seals your salvation (Romans 10:8-10), it also positions you in alignment with the power of God. (Acts 4:29-31) As you study the book of Acts, stepping forward for Jesus Christ is the point at which the miraculous began to happen.
Granted, it may be accompanied by suffering and persecution, but it also places you at the threshold of the presence and glory of God. This is when God starts doing extraordinary things through ordinary men and women.
Be unashamed to be identified with Jesus Christ and His bride the church. In the short run it might cost you, but the cost of following at a distance or trying to be a secret disciple is far greater. Fear and cowardice are pathetic friends.
