The Kiss of Betrayal: Luke 22:47-48
“47) ) While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. 48) But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” Luke 22:47-48
Every time I read this story, I am reminded of Proverbs 27:6; “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” Judas picked a kiss to betray Jesus.
According to Matthew 26:48-50, Judas had given the mob a sign; “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him.” Jesus knew exactly what was happening. He knew the agreement Judas had made with the mob.
Satan often disguises his schemes with a kiss. He has a way of making sin look good. But after the fact, guilt always sets in. Judas was abandoned and betrayed by the very ones who had hired him. He was left alone to be tormented by inner condemnation.
So it often happens to people. In the end, the kiss of temptation quickly becomes the curse of loneliness and abandonment. Sin always has consequences.
If you are caught in the trap of despair, Jesus offers you forgiveness and a clean slate. Turn to Him and not from Him. (1 John 2:1-3)
