The Coming Collapse and Occupation of Israel. Luke 21:20-24
““20) But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. 21) Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city; 22) because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. 23) Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people; 24) and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” Luke 21:20-24
These verses are talking about an end time invasion and occupation of Judea and Jerusalem by Gentile nations. Israel will be attacked and invaded by numerous armies.
It is during this time that the Jewish people are to abandon the cities and flee into the mountains and the wilderness.
Revelation 12:13-16 talks about a supernatural evacuation and protection of Israel by the two wings of the great eagle. God will provide for the Jewish people for 3 1/2 years in this wilderness haven.
According to Revelation 12:17 through chapter 13, this will trigger the revealing of the beast and he will make war with the saints. He will be vile and blasphemous, display false signs and wonders and have a throne from which he rules for 42 months.
The words of Jesus in Luke 21:20-24 may be describing this time frame. Though I believe there will be world wide persecution and tribulation, Jesus was directing His remarks primarily to the nation of Israel. Vengeance will be poured out on the nation of Israel.
Jesus was warning the Jewish people about what was to come in the end times to the nation of Israel. This is significant, because for most of the past 2,000 years the Jewish people did not have political sovereignty over their homeland. That changed in 1948 when Israel became a nation.
So where are we on the prophetic timeline. We are 77 years after Israel regained national sovereignty of their homeland. Keep in mind, they didn’t even have national sovereignty in the days of Jesus upon earth. They were ruled and governed by Rome.
We are now bumping against the end of the life span of people born around 1948. We are at the end of that generation and it is accompanied by world tension aimed at Israel as never seen in the short history of the modern nation of Israel.
Israel now has war on multiple fronts. Many nations are lining up against her. The words of Jesus in this text cannot be ignored or explained away. The last five years have been very strange indeed. Nothing is the same anymore.
I was born in 1957. I have watched much of the modern history of Israel unfold. Nothing parallels what is currently unfolding around the world and in the Middle East. The signs of the times cannot be ignored.
I am intrigued by Revelation 12:14 and the two wings of the great eagle that is going to fly the Jewish people into the wilderness. Could this be describing an air lift evacuation from Jerusalem and Israel?
Our modern era has seen air evacuations from other war torn and collapsing nations. Ironically, these were orchestrated by the nation whose symbol is the great eagle.
I confess, this is mere speculation on my behalf, but it would not surprise me if contingency plans are now being made for the potential fall and foreign occupation of Israel.
