Transition to the End Times: Luke 21:20
““20) But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near.” Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭20‬ ‭
This verse and several like it are why the eyes of the world are on Jerusalem as a sign for the end times. Jesus did not say “army” as in the singular army of Rome that destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD. He now talked about “armies.” He was now talking about many nations and armies surrounding Jerusalem.
I am not a prophecy expert, but many Scripture like Daniel chapters 8 through 12 mention several times that Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles. The context also gives some intriguing time lines between the first coming of the Messiah and His final return to rescue His people and Jerusalem from fierce occupation.
The book of Revelation also aligns with this plot and the occupation of the Gentiles over the city of Jerusalem. This will trigger the Second return of Jesus Christ to liberate Jerusalem and set up His Millennium Kingdom.
The bottom line is that Israel will be the focus of the world in the end times. Things will unfold very quickly and anti-Christ will usher in a fake peace treaty with Israel followed by fierce occupation for 3 1/2 years. This will be the first part of the Great Tribulation.
All of this to say that with Luke 21:20, Jesus begins to speak very specifically about the end times that will usher in His return. Jesus transitions His conversation from an overview of church history and begins to laser focus on the end times.
All eyes are now on the Middle East. Unprecedented events that Jesus spoke about in these verses are unfolding very rapidly. International hostilities are being directed toward Israel. Israel has wars on multiple fronts.
Nothing in our world is normal any more! My advice is to be watchful, be praying, be ready and be very busy with the Great Commission. Time is short. Our world is being ushered into prophetic chaos.
