Manuel Update:
Manuel flew to Lima on February 21st to start testing. It has been a long hurry up and wait process with testing and waiting for results, followed up by more testing, etc.
So Faron Lima, Manuel has seen three doctors. Two are heart specialists and one is an infectious doctor.
The heart doctors found that he was born with a vein in his heart that goes under a muscle in his heart instead of on top. When the heart pumps with tension, the muscle restricts blood flow through the vein and can cause pain, like a heart attack or what looks like a heart attack. They use to operate on these, but now they do a treatment that includes loosing weight and a healthy diet plan. (Goodbye deep fried foods and high carbs)
This morning we had an appointment with the infection specialist. Manuel tested positive for dangue fever which is spread by mosquitoes. That might be what triggered his entire medical episode.
The Doctor also said he found indications of possible tuberculosis. That was not conclusive, but it is on the radar screen moving forward,
Because of the infection in his body, it resulted in a serious episode of myocarditis. That is a condition of swelling in the tissue surrounding the heart. They believe that is what precipitated the heat attack. It nearly closed off the vein feeding a portion of his heart. That also resulted in the early tests looking like a blockage and heart damage. The muscle that goes over the vein in his heart caused tremendous pain and restricted the blood flow.
The good news is that he has no permanent heart damage and no blockage. There is no need for an intrusive surgery. But he needs to change his diet, loose weight and adopt a healthy life style. We almost lost him. It was a big wake up call.
Manuel has a follow up appointment with the infectious doctor next week to talk about treatment. They will address any left over dangue fever issues and watch for potential TB.
Other news, Daniel tonsils surgery went well and recovery was hard but we got through it. Baby Timothy is healthy and gaining weight. Both boys got cleared to fly and I flew out with Daniel and Timothy to meet up with Manuel in Lima on Feb 28. We have tickets to return from Lima next Saturday.
Thank you for covering us in your prayers during this season in our lives! It was a time of unending drama and an emotional whirlwind.
Also, thank you all for the financial support. In the midst of this crisis, we were overwhelmed by your love, prayers and provisions.
I will be updating as I get more info. We sense this was an attack from the enemy because of the very fruitful ministry God has entrusted to us. Many are coming to Christ and our surrounding community is being impacted by the gospel. This episode was used of God to impact even more lives.
We were on the verge of an expansion that was put on hold during the drama of the last few months. It includes an opportunity to purchase an adjacent building that connects our courtyard. This could greatly expand our ministry.
When we recoup and return to Iquitos, we will be seeking God earnestly about the next phase in our ministry. We do not want to back down. We are seeking God for a fresh anointing, clear vision and future plans. Pray for us.
