Crucified with Christ: Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭20‬ ‭
Today is Good Friday. It is the day we as Christians set aside to remember the fact that Jesus was crucified to pay for our sins and provide a way for human salvation. But there is more!
In the above verse, Paul understood that he was metaphysically crucified with Christ. By faith he embraced what it meant for him to die on the cross with Christ. His sins were not only paid for, but this theological truth gave him the daily power to die to his own sin. Lusts, greed, anger and every deed of the flesh lost its grip on him because he consciously reckoned himself as crucified with Christ.
This truth has life transforming power. Dead people do not sin. Temptation has no influence on them. Paul entered into this through faith and started experiencing it in his life. Romans 6-8 were written to develop this truth. But there is more!
Paul also entered into the full benefits of the resurrection of Christ. This is where he found new life. This is where he learned the secret of walking in the Spirit. The crucifixion and resurrection of Christ is far more than an annual Christian Holiday. It is an invitation to die to self and live to Christ. Those who by faith enter into these truths are literally born-again. It far surpasses a religious concept and becomes a life transformational reality.
Paul said it well in the above verse; “… and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” The resurrected Christ started living in and through Paul by faith. He was transformed into a new man.
My challenge to you today is to set aside the notion of a Christian holiday and embrace the full benefits of both being crucified with Christ and living in newness of life with Him. Invite Jesus by faith to live in you day by day for the rest of your life! Embrace these truths.
