A Sober Warning: Jude 1:11
“11) Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.” Jude 1:11
Jude now places these false workers who creep into the church in the category of Cain, Balaam and Korah. Each of these three individuals defied those in authority, rejected sound warnings, went contrary to God’s Word, engaged in rebellion, and aided and abetted Satan in his schemes. People died because of them.
The point is that Satan has always had willing workers. Some do it out of jealousy and anger. Others are motivated by greed. Some crave power and influence. Still others might have some unresolved hurt, offense or misunderstanding with those in authority. No matter the motivation, they have no fear of God or the consequences of their actions. They revel in spreading confusion, division, pain, turmoil and even suffering.
Beware that you do not become one of them. I have seen many good people become sour or bitter for no apparent reason. Soon they become critics and begin stirring opposition.
This warning in the book of Jude has often caused me to test my own heart and attitudes. I know only to well the the bent of my own flesh toward sin. As God warned Cain; “7) … sin is crouching at the door; and it’s desire is for you, but you must master it.” (Genesis 4:7) Sin has a thousand postures and it knows which one appeals to you and me. This warning extends to all of us!
