Fruit Bearing: Colossians 1:6
“ … the gospel, 6) which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;”. Colossians 1:6
The gospel is powerful. Grace and truth changes lives and produces fruit. As the gospel took off across the Roman empire, good things started happening.
Formerly wicked and evil people were changed into gentle and loving believers. Corruption was curtailed and many in bondage or slavery were set free. Eventually Christianity ended slavery in the Roman empire.
I am not implying that mere religion can do this because it does not change the inner core of people. Many in Paul’s day were religious but lost. The same holds true today.
But the true gospel of grace changes people. It liberates them from guilt, bondage, addictions and sin. This fruit is both individual and corporate.
Jesus spoke of this fruit in John 15:1-16. Verse 8 is to the point; “By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and prove to be my disciples.” His disciples abide in His love and are a huge impact within their sphere of influence.
If you are a Christian, you should be making a positive influence in your world. Good fruit should follow you.
