The Full Scope of the Incarnation: Hebrews 2:9
“9) But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.” Hebrews‬ ‭2:9‬
We now discover the primary reason reason for the incarnation. Jesus was made lower than the angels and put on humanity so that He might suffer and die for the sins of mankind.
Please understand that angels are spirits and therefore do not die. They are eternal beings. But when Adam and Eve sinned, death became a judgement on the whole human race. Jesus became a man that He might die for the sins of humanity.
We again see the huge step down from Deity that Jesus voluntarily took to redeem humanity. He was made lower than the angels to fulfill His mission of death on a cross. His suffering was real and His death was real.
The next time you question the Love Jesus has for you, stop and ponder what He did to purchase your salvation. He not only died for you, but He voluntarily set aside His equality with God to put on humanity. (Philippians 2:5-11) He entered the realm of human need, pain, suffering and death. He set aside what people long for and entered into the depth of what people dread. He became a companion of suffering and pain.
