Take a Walk Through the New Testament Promised Land.
Key Scriptures: Genesis 13:17-18; Ephesians 3:18
Yesterday, I preached a message at Open Bible Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. At the end of the message, I read a short trustee I wrote on “Taking a walk with me through the New Testament Promised Land.” As promised, I am posting the article:
Well are you ready to take a walk with me through the New Testament Promised Land?
Let me make it personal by sharing about my journey. I am called, chosen, redeemed, saved and forgiven. I have been born-again through faith in Jesus Christ and now have no condemnation because I have been justified, sanctified, sealed, filled and baptized with the Holy Spirit. My body is now the temple of the Holy Spirit and I abide in the “In-Me-Presence of God” who has given me power, spiritual gifts and fruits in His Spirit.
Walk with me a little farther:
I now cry out “Aba Father” because I am a child of God. I have been raised up and seated with Christ in heavenly places with all heavenly blessing made available to me. He has invited me into dominion life. The Holy Spirit intercedes for me with groanings to deep for words and Jesus Himself intercedes for me according to the will of God. Therefore the Bible proclaims that all things in my life work together for good according to the divine purpose of conforming me to the likeness of Christ. I confess, at times I have been a very difficult case, but by His grace that has been radically changing.
Well, Do you want to hear more?
Jesus is now my vine and the Father is my vine dresser trimming and pruning me to produce abundant and lasting fruit. Jesus is my door and constantly goes before me as my good shepherd. He is my light, my new life, my daily manna and my source of Zoe life. Jesus is my resurrection and life! He is King of King and Lord of Lords. At His name every knee in heaven, on earth and under the earth bows and confesses Him as Lord. He has granted me authority to pray, live and minister in the authority of that name.
Let’s keep walking!
My old sinful life is gone and buried with Christ. I have forsaken my old self filled life embroiled in lies, deception and self-pity. I accept by faith the fact that I been raised up with Christ and seated with Him in heavenly places. I am daily renewing my mind and putting on my new self which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
My old self is dead and forgotten. I have decided to leave its rotting corpse in the grave. I have become a new creation “in Christ.” I have become United with Christ in His resurrection. This world is no longer my home, my new citizenship is in heaven! I have long forgotten my past and now embrace my new identity “in Christ.” I have not attained everything yet, but I have chosen to forget what is behind and reach forward to what is ahead. I press on daily!
Oh there’s so much more!
He has given me a spirit of wisdom and revelation into the knowledge of Christ. My life now has meaning, purpose and heavenly value. I walk in resurrection power, am rooted and grounded in agape love. Therefore, I have unfathomable spiritual discernment granted to me “in Christ” as I forsake my flesh and walk in His Spirit. As He is, so also He has invited me to become in this world. He has invited me to know and live in the breath, length, height and depth of my inheritance “in Christ.” This is not mine only but for every born-again believer “in Christ.”
The next part is so unfathomable it sounds heretical:
Through His precious and magnificent promises, He has made a way for us to be filled up to all the fulness of God and become partakers of the divine nature. We have been raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places “in Christ.” The wall of separation between us and God has long been torn down and removed. He has given us access to the counts of heaven and invited us to come boldly before His throne of grace. He invites us to walk in the light as He is light. We can now do exceeding abundantly beyond anything we can ask or imagine according to His power that works within us.
What can I Say?
You now have had a glimpse of your Promised Land “in Christ.” You have a choice of making this world your home while holding to a form of godliness and making excuses for your shallow faith and pathetic spiritual life; or starting today you can step into the Spirit and take possession of this amazing Promised Land.
Grasp your Bible and daily walk through this Promised land. Avoid the temptation of merely knowing it intellectually for that leaves you in the very small box of rationalism. Instead, smash your boxes and take possession of this Promised Land. Pull down your naturalistic walls and inhibitions and go in and take possession of the new promised land Jesus offers you.
Oh, there is so much more, but like the spies in the Promised Land you now have a glimpse of your inheritance in Christ. Step into the spirit of Joshua and Caleb and by all means go on and take possession of this amazing promised land!
