The Surpassing Value of Walking with God: Psalm 63
“1) O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2) Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. 3) Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. 4) So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. 5) My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips. 6) When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, 7) For You have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.” Psalms‬ ‭63‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭
These verses are a snap shot of David’s continual communion with God. His relationship with God was genuine, real and deep. It defined his highest value in life. Walking with God became his surpassing value.
These verses describe about David what Philippians 3:7-11 portrays about Paul. They both relentlessly pursued intimacy with God both day and night.
Nothing was more valuable or satisfying than their walk with God! It eclipsed all else. This kind of communion with God is why God created mankind. It defines the purpose of life.
The longer I walk with God, the more I crave Him both day and night as David described in this Psalm. Other things are losing meaning and value.
Every believer is called into this David and Paul kind of continual fellowship with Jesus Christ. There is no limit to its meaning, depth, fulfillment and precious value.
This goes way beyond mere religious ritual or ceremony. This is the call to walk with God in this present life and fallen world. It is the call Jesus extends to each of us.
