The Meaning of Nonsense: Luke 24:9-11
“9) and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10) Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. 11) But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.” Luke 24:9-11
The women were the most reliable witnesses. The eleven were the most prepared audience. Yet, they would not believe them!
These verses almost sound contradictory. Jesus Himself had foretold them, and yet they did not believe.
What was the problem? The death and burial were natural events, but the resurrection was Supernatural. Their faith had to stretch beyond the normal or natural realm.
Notice, the text says, “But these words appeared to them as nonsense.” Let me make an important play on words: belief in God is nonsense! What do I mean by that?
Faith pushes us beyond the realm of the five human senses. Belief in God goes beyond the data that can be obtained by our five human senses. For that reason, faith by definition is “non … sensical.”
We cannot hear, smell, taste, touch or feel God? He doesn’t fit within the limitations of the scientific method of investigation. But that does not disprove the existence of God or of the spiritual realm. It simply means that naturalism alone is a woefully inadequate judge of reality.
Let me state the obvious, belief in God involves shattering your natural boxes. The spiritual real is a reality beyond the natural realm. Until you pull down the your natural barriers you will never come to know God or experience the Supernatural.
Are you ready to embrace the Supernatural side of the gospel? Do you believe in the full identity of Jesus Christ? Are you moving beyond your natural senses and encountering God? Are you ready to push beyond the restraints of naturalism? Are you ready to live by faith and enter into the walk in the Spirit?
