More to Life: Luke 12:22-23
“22) And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. 23) For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” Luke‬ ‭12‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭
There is more to life than amassing treasures and wealth on earth. This is a hard lesson to learn.
Work is commended in the Bible as a means of sustenance for self and provision for others, but so is trusting God as the Provider. In fact, our overflow should be looked at as a God flow for abundant ministry.
Like Barnabas in Acts 4:36-37, we can become Sons of Encouragement to many people by becoming part of God’s supply chain. It appears that Barnabas maintained this gracious role throughout his long life of ministry and service. He impacted thousands for the kingdom.
According to the context, the problem comes when we build bigger barns and hoard the overflow for ourselves. In so doing, we cut ourselves off from the grace and miraculous work of God as Provider. He wants our excess to be part of His provision for needs around is.
We we hoard the excess, we tragically displace the power and work of God in our own lives. We become our own “god.” We fool ourselves into thinking that money can buy happiness. Many wealthy people die bitter, cynical, lonely, isolated and miserable. They have missed the meaning and purpose of life.
