The Amazing Story of Isaac: Genesis 27:27-40
“By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come.” Hebrews 11:20
This is referring to a story recorded in Genesis 27:27-40 and the stolen blessing. At first glance it looks like Isaac was deceived by Jacob, but he understood the providence of God. Even though he thought he was blessing Esau, he did not withdraw his blessing when he latter discovered his error. In fact, he confirmed his blessing on Jacob because he knew the unseen hand of God was at work.
Faith understands that Gods ways are higher than our ways. Faith looks for the hidden blessings in the apparent tragedies of life. Faith realizes that God is in control even when we feel out of control. Faith knows that God causes all things to work together for good. (Romans 8:28) Faith knows that God holds the future and we are merely along for the ride. Faith looks at the future with confidence knowing that we cannot mess up what God planned from the foundation of the world.
Notice that Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau regarding things to come. Faith can perceive what the eyes cannot see. Faith in God gives direction to our life and clarity to our destiny. It trusts God to weave together all of the details for His ultimate purpose. Faith understands that our blunders often become Gods wonders.
Faith turns past regrets into future hopes. Faith allows us to forgive and forget what is behind and lay hold of a new future. As Paul said in Philippians 3:12-14, faith enables us to “press on” in life. Faith empowers us to live for the future with an eternal perspective.
This small story of Isaac has so many applications. Faith disarms worry, stress, fear and anxiety because it focuses on the One who holds the future. I view faith in God as the great equalizer in life. It adds order, purpose and hope to what might otherwise look like chaos.
My growing faith in God has turned me from a pessimist to an optimist. It kicked negativity out of my life and rearranged everything around a positive outlook. Faith is the fuel that drives my visionary spirit. Faith adds God to every equation in life and that totally changes the way I perceive the future. Faith invites us to live above our circumstances. Faith allows us to soar like an Eagle on the winds of adversity.
