The Way to a Long and Peaceful Life
“1) My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; 2) For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you.” Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭2‬
Many chase after food or exercise fads that promise better health or a longer life. Solomon now makes a bold claim about building your life on the wisdom and ways of God.
This is amazing: “2) For length of days and years of life, and peace they will add to you.” Did I read that correctly? Living wholeheartedly based on godly wisdom will result in a long and peaceful life! How could he make such a bold claim?
Much of it is based on the law of the sower as set forth in Galatians 6:7-8. You reap what you sow in life. Those who sow to the sinful flesh reap terrible consequences. Those who sow to the Spirit reap amazing blessings.
Sinful living brings guilt, condemnation, regret, addictions, broken relationships, anger and bitterness, STD’s, legal problems, anxiety, demonic influence, financial stress and health problems. Over time the consequences compound. It is possible to die rich but lonely, sick and miserable.
But those who follow the path of godly living as laid out in the book of proverbs, have none of these things. To the contrary, they are blessed with a healthy and peaceful life. Why? Because you reap what you sow in life! Over time the blessings compound.
I recognize there are micro exceptions to this rule, but when extended over the span of a lifetime, the macro principle holds true! The way you live determines your outcomes in life.
One of the advantages of moving into my senior years is perspective. I have seen this principle fulfilled thousands of times. The law of the sower applies equally to everyone.
The book of Proverbs was written to help you live on the right side of this law. Take hold of godly wisdom and don’t let go! Let it govern your life. The compounding rewards are priceless.
