The Second Big Benefit of Wisdom:
“16) To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words; 17) That leaves the companion of her youth And forgets the covenant of her God; 18) For her house sinks down to death And her tracks lead to the dead; 19) None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.” Proverbs 2:16-19
The second Big Benefit of wisdom is to help avoid the seductions of the adulterous woman. Keep in mind, Solomon was writing to his sons and young men.
Just as there are sinful and evil men in the world, there are also sinful and evil women. Many people of both genders are slaves to sexual immorality. Solomon understood the importance of avoiding the traps of sexual bondage and addiction. He himself was held in its grip.
1 Corinthians 6:9-20 is the New Testament parallel to the warning against sexual bondage. In the Freedom Quest Workshop we deal with sexual immorality as one of the seven basic strongholds Satan uses to temp and then enslave people in bondage.
One indication of sexual bondage in the text is a disregard for the sanctity of marriage. The adulterous woman leaves the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.
The sanctity of marriage is a crucial corner stone to every society. According to Romans 1:18-32, when it is destroyed, the whole nation begins to crumble.
The warnings against sexual bandage is a reoccurring theme in the book of Proverbs. Why? It is one of Satan’s basic schemes against both men and women. It is a trap that has ensnared many.
My friend, take heed to this warning. Wisdom, understanding and the fear of the Lord will help you avoid this trap. Confession, repentance, resisting the enemy and consecrating your body to God will help you pull down this sinful bondage in your life. (Romans 12:1-2)
Jesus did not come to condemn the world, He came to save the world. (See John 3:16-21) Jesus Christ and the gospel can set you free from sexual bondage.
