The Book of Wisdom
“1) The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:” Proverbs 1:1
When Solomon became king, God offered him a request. Without hesitation, he asked for wisdom. (See 1 Kings 3:6-14) God granted his request.
The end result became the book of Proverbs, also called the book of Wisdom. It contains 31 chapters of common sense wisdom and logic.
Many years ago as a young man, I was challenged to read one chapter of Proverbs a day corresponding to the day of the month. For the most part, it has become a life long habit.
I have gained more practical wisdom from the book of Proverbs than from any other source of study. It touches on nearly every subject and theme in life. In following them there is great reward.
Over the next several months, we will work our way through the book of Proverbs. I am shy about this endeavor knowing that we will barely scratch the surface. This book is a gold mine loaded with many valuable nuggets.
I agree with the theme of the book of Proverbs that wisdom is more desirable than great riches and that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.
