Landing in Haiti
Updates from the mission team May 2026
There are few things that get us more excited than seeing hope come alive for Haiti. We’ve watched and waited the last several years, unable to really send boots on the ground, while hearing about the struggles around inflation and food. Hearing the struggles as refugees flee Port-au-Prince to Southern Haiti and find us there. There has been a lot that we’ve heard in the last few years that was bad, can we agree? I know some people have wondered if we’d ever see the light again.
We’re not writing this to say that everything is perfect and back to normal, but we are gladly celebrating the good news that God has continuously kept the doors open in Haiti, and we see a light beginning to shine that gives us hope for what is to come. This past week, we sent a small and specialized team to Haiti – the first real trip in a while. These were people who had plenty of experience and specialized skills. Led by Rick Brown, this team of five flew directly into Les Cayes from Miami, lessening the risk of being grounded in the capital or having to travel the road that leads to Les Cayes.
They’ve spent the last week working on various projects: some are doing maintenance work at the beach house or around the center; some are helping to lead a dental clinic as well as offering pop ups in rural places; some are interviewing owners of Safe T Homes to bring back stories to us; some are connecting with kids for their sponsors to get much longed-for updates. This has been an amazing week that keeps us excited and in awe of our God. Thank you for partnering with us in prayer, in waiting & hoping, in sowing seeds by providing time & resources.
We wanted to share these updates specifically with those who have faithfully supported Haiti because we know your heart continues to long for the people there, and we believe that God is hearing our prayers. Thank you!!
Dental Clinic
Tom Bieber was instrumental in the starting and building of the dental clinic in Haiti. After several years (around 8) not traveling there, it is a huge blessing to see him there serving again! He has led many teams to do popup dental clinics in rural areas of Haiti. The team went out on Monday to Sion/Zion and did a dental clinic which is about an hour and a half away from the Center.
Orphanage & School
We continue to delight in the faces of those kids that God has brought into our care! Whether it’s an orphan needing a home or a student seeking education, these smiles are all the encouragement we need.
Beach house Tour
If you’ve never been or it’s been several years, the beach house might look a little different! Take a tour with Mark Henderson as he walks through the house.
Trip Updates from Mark Henderson
We did a mobile dental clinic in Camp Perrin at the church plant. Tom Bieber and John Erickson were the dentists and the rest of the team assisted. Peterson Austin was our trusted translator and capable nurse!
This was the small community of Safe T Homes that they built up the hill from the river after the community was wiped out from flooding. The community where Eddy grew up.
We have more stories coming later about the dentist work and video interview with the Pastor.
We went to church at the center and then Rivenson’s church. Then we stopped by the center, and we did interviews with people who live in Safe T Homes nearby the center. There are 25 or 30 out in the rural area just behind the center, which was a surprise and very helpful to see the context of where lots of them are at. People seemed happy to tell their story and Petersen is going to translate those tonight before we leave.
Yesterday we worked on some projects at the house, then had coffee with Rivenson and his family at their house. Then we went out to Sion/Zion and did a dental clinic which is about an hour and a half away. We got some great footage out there of the orphanage, the school, the university, etc., and some drone footage.
Tuesday we’re gonna try to get some interviews with people around the center but everyone is busy and Peterson is busy translating for the dentists.
We’ve probably had chicken every meal, rice and beans, spicy coleslaw, and plantains.
For a treat, we had a burger at lunchtime and we had some goat the other night!
Fish one night at the market.
