The Church and the Holy Spirit
“7) He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’” Revelation‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ ‭
It is a message repeated to each of the seven churches in the book of Revekation; “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Jesus builds and leads His church through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Ignoring or marginalizing the Holy Spirit by any church is a mark of rebellion against God!
The day of Pentecost and the giving of the Holy Spirit marked the birth of the church. He was the Promise of the Father. (Acts 1:4-8, 2:1-4)
Coming together and serving the Lord with fasting and prayer was for the purpose of listening to the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit by the church at Antioch. (Acts 13:1-4)
Spiritual gifts are manifestations of the Holy Spirit given to the body of Christ. He is not to be ignored by the churches. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)
I am very leery of any church that minimizes or ignores the crucial ministry of the Holy Spirit in the governance of its affairs. They are reduced to carnal and fleshly ministry.
No wonder the flood gates of apostasy are opened wide in this modern era. “They hold to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power, and avoid such men as these. “ (2 Timothy 3:5) Jesus Himself pointed to the Holy Spirit as the power for the church. (Acts 1:8) A Spiritless church is a powerless church!
