The Holy Spirit Supernaturally Prepares the Way for the Gospel: John 16:7-11; Acts 8:25-40
“7) But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8) And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9) concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10) and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11) and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.” John 16:7-11
The Holy Spirit is our helper in evangelism. He is the one who draws people to the gospel message and then convicts them of sin, righteousness and judgement.
He arranges circumstances in peoples lives to prepare them for the gospel. This can be illustrated by the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch as recorded in Acts 8:25-40. Notice how the Spirit spoke Philip in verse 29; “Go up and join this chariot.”
Do you think it was a coincidence that the eunuch was reading from Isaiah 53? Philip used this text to preach Jesus to him. He soon became a believer and was baptized.
But that’s not the end of the story. The eunuch was a court official of Candace, queen of Ethiopia. After becoming a believer, he carried the gospel back to Ethiopia.
Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit snatched Philip away and he continued preaching the gospel throughout Azotus and into Caesarea. I maintain that the Holy Spirit does His greatest work on the front lines of spreading the gospel.
If you want to witness the power of the Holy Spirit at work, step out and start sharing the gospel. You will soon start experiencing stories like told by the early church in the book of Acts.
