Inviting God into Every Area of Life: Psalm 144
“1) Blessed be the Lord, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle; 2) My lovingkindness and my fortress, My stronghold and my deliverer, My shield and He in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me.
12) Let our sons in their youth be as grown-up plants, And our daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace; 13) Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce, And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; 14) Let our cattle bear Without mishap and without loss, Let there be no outcry in our streets! How blessed are the people who are so situated; 15) How blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!” Psalms‬ ‭144‬:‭1‬-‭2‬, ‭12-15‬ ‭
At first glance, Psalm 144 is a bit hard to follow. David talks about everything from war to raising families, gardening and keeping flocks and cattle. He seems to be rambling all over the place.
That’s the point. He is saying he consciously wants God to be present and active in every area of his life. David recognized that God is as needed on the battle field as He is in the family on the job and in leisure activities. God cares about every area of our lives.
God wants to walk with us through every chapter of life. He wants to be ever present, acknowledged and included in everything. There is nothing too big or too small for Him.
Here is the catch, we can go through life with Him or without Him. We can walk in His love, grace, protection, provisions and blessings, or we can ignore Him and do life on our own and hope for the best.
Solomon said it this way; ““5) Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6) In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬-‭6‬
The longer I live, the more I am learning to acknowledge God and include Him in everything. I no longer want to do anything in life without Him. I want Him present in my ministry, in my marriage, in my family, in my hobbies, in my leisure time and in my thought life. Why do any area of life without including Him?
