Seeing the Daily Lovingkindness of God: Psalm 118
“1) Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. 2) Oh let Israel say, “His lovingkindness is everlasting.” 3) Oh let the house of Aaron say, “His lovingkindness is everlasting.” 4) Oh let those who fear the Lord say, “His lovingkindness is everlasting.” 5) From my distress I called upon the Lord; The Lord answered me and set me in a large place. 6) The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? 7)The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me. 8) It is better to take refuge in the Lord Than to trust in man. 9) It is better to take refuge in the Lord Than to trust in princes.” Psalms‬ ‭118‬:‭1‬-‭9‬ ‭
This Psalm is both corporate and personal. It is about Gods dealing with Israel and His lovingkindness toward us as individuals every day.
Verse six is one of my basic life principles; “The Lord is for me, He is not against me.” I never doubt Gods love, acceptance and favor toward me. I consciously expect and look for them daily.
I also recognize that God is faithful and can be trusted. Verse eight says; “it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.” People have often let me down, God never has!
Verses 22-24 are prophetic. “22) The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. 23) This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24) This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
What Jesus did to purchase our salvation is so undeserving. He became the stone which was rejected by the religious leaders, but became the very cornerstone of our salvation.
I start nearly every day with by telling myself; “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad on it! I believe in seeing the goodness of God in every day and making the most of it.
