Benefits of Fearing the Lord and Walking in His Ways: Psalm 112
“1) Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who greatly delights in His commandments. 2) His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. 3) Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever. 4) Light arises in the darkness for the upright; He is gracious and compassionate and righteous. 5) It is well with the man who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment. 6) For he will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever.” Psalms‬ ‭112‬:‭1‬-‭6‬
Altogether this Psalm has ten verses. The first six set the flavor of this Psalm. It is about the blessings, prosperity, influence and mighty posterity of the righteous. His descendants will be mighty on the earth.
This is not a prosperity doctrine. We do not treat God like a lottery ticket. Being righteous is not about what we get, It’s about who we become. But those who fear God and walk in His ways will be favored by Him.
Hebrews 11:6 is a great commentary on this Psalm; “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” God does surround His people with His goodness.
The main point of this Psalm is the stark contrast between the righteous and the wicked. There is a huge difference. It can be measured on many fronts.
With pen in hand, take a moment and mark the difference mentioned in this Psalm. It will shock you.
