Carve Out Special Time To Meet With God: Psalm 95
“1) O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. 2) Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. 3) For the Lord is a great God And a great King above all gods, 4) In whose hand are the depths of the earth, The peaks of the mountains are His also. 5) The sea is His, for it was He who made it, And His hands formed the dry land. 6) Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7) For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice,” Psalms 95:1-7
This is one of my favorite Psalms. It opens the door to a new section of Psalms dedicated to praise and worship. There is a distinct shift in the mood and focus in the next fifteen to twenty chapters. I absolutely love this section of the book of Psalms.
They are about forgetting self and focusing on God. I like the way he starts by saying; “O come let us sing for joy to the Lord.”
These should be special times set aside to seek God. There is no schedule, agenda or board meeting. God Himself is the agenda. Hearing from Him is the goal. (See Acts 13:1-4)
According to this entire section of Psalms, do not be passive or average in your praise and worship of God. Be intentional. Shout joyfully and be loud. Save your inhibitions for sporting events!
At the same time, it is good to bow before God in worship and acknowledge Him as your Maker. Forget about all else and focus on Him.
I beg you to carve out special time to meet with God. Make it an extended time. Get together with a few other godly believers and do nothing but seek, praise, glorify, magnify and worship God.
Delight in Him. Listen to the voice of His Spirit. Be still and know that He is God. Maybe blend in a time of fasting. Forget about the cares of this world.
I confess, many times when listening to the audio Bible, I skip forward and start with Psalm 95. There are times I cannot handle the heavy pessimism of the previous section of the book of Psalms. These are dreary days. I need my spirit lifted.
This is a great way to end the year and start a new year. Set aside special time to meet with God. Expect God to be present and active. Make Him your focus.
