Two Radically Different Paths in Life. Psalm 36
“1) Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart; There is no fear of God before his eyes. Psalm 36:1
“5) Your lovingkindness, O Lord, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” Psalms 36:5
This Psalm is a contrast between the wickedness of fallen humanity and the goodness of God. There are four verses about fallen humanity followed by verses about the lovingkindness of God.
It closes with three verses that basically tells the reader to decide in which camp they want abide and live. David’s decision was clear, he wanted to abide in the lovingkindness and righteousness of God.
We each make the same decision. We can walk in darkness or light. We can walk with the world or with God. We align with one or the other, but we cannot have both at the same time!
They are opposites. The ways of the world and the ways of God do not mix together. (See Isaiah 55:6-9) The wisdom of the world and the wisdom of God are in opposition to each other. (See 1 Corinthians 2:18-31)
Like David, I have purposed to forsake the world and walk with God. The pleasures of the world amount to sewage compared to the goodness and blessings of God. (See Paul’s testimony in Philippians 3:7-11)
They are two radically different roads. They encompass two very different paths in this life. They lead to drastically different eternal destinies.
