The Importance of the Resurrection: Luke 24:4-8
“4) While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; 5) and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? 7) He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” 8) And they remembered His words,” Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭4‬-‭8‬
As the women were perplexed about the empty tomb, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling apparel. They were angels.
Just as the birth of Jesus was accompanied by angelic activity, the same was true of His resurrection. The women were terrified by the sight and bowed with their faces to the ground.
The conversation that followed related to the resurrection; “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” That was a profound question. Then they reminded the women of the words of Jesus.
We need to be reminded of the words of Jesus. He often spoke of being delivered into the hands of sinful men, being crucified and the third day raised again.
It is staggering going back through the four gospels and counting the number of times Jesus foretold these events. Though He spoke of them often, it did not register with any of His followers.
Unbelief about the resurrection was the initial greatest problem among His disciples. (Review Mark 16:11-18) Yet it is the resurrection that separates Jesus Christ from every other religious leader and philosopher.
The resurrection proved His claim of deity. (Romans 1:4) The resurrection is the final point of the gospel. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) The resurrection is the basis of our new life in Christ.
