Let the Rocks Cry Out! Luke 19:35-40
“35) They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36) As He was going, they were spreading their coats on the road. 37) As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, 38) shouting: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39) Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40) But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”” Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭35‬-‭40‬
As Jesus approached Jerusalem seated on the colt, the multitudes who had seen His Miracles cried out in praise. They knew who He was. They were announcing the King.
They shouted; “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” They were welcoming their King.
Have you ever wondered what the colt thought. Did he assume that all of the praise and glory was for him. Not for a moment! He was merely the beast of burden that carried Jesus.
Those in ministry have much to learn from this colt. The praise is never meant for us; we are merely the mule that carries Jesus and His glory.
However, the Pharisees did get offended. They wanted Jesus to stop the crowd. They thought they were speaking blasphemy.
His response was profound; “I tell you; if these be silent, the stones will cry out!” All creation recognizes Jesus. (See Romans 8:19-22) We could make the case that Jesus was saying the Pharisees were dumber than rocks. Such is often the case with religious leaders.
Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from shouting praise to Jesus. Freedom from inhibition in the presence of Jesus is an indication of Lordship. I have trouble fathoming how any believer can cheer more for a sports team than for Jesus!
