Consider the Ravens: Luke 12:24-25
“24) Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! 25) And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span?”Luke 12:24-25
Jesus now challenges the listeners to look at other life forms God created on planet earth. They don’t share human values and yet God takes care of them.
He starts with the ravens. These birds do not buy or sell property or build storage barns. They do not sow, cultivate or reap crops. And yet God takes care of them. They simply enjoy doing what God created them to do.
1 Kings 17:1-7 tells an amazing story about ravens. During a time of famine, God sent ravens to provide food for Elijah. Why? They still had an abundance. God provided for them so they could care for Elijah. They had no problem sharing.
Anxiety, worry and stress about basic necessities does not add to human life span. Granted, getting exercise and good nutrition combined with positive and wholesome thinking can add to happiness and longevity.
But stress, anxiety and worry do just the opposite. They actually destroy the immune system and feed pessimism and depression. They bog the soul and spirit down.
What is the answer? Build your faith and trust in God as your Provider. Thank and praise Him for your daily bread. Spread your wings and fly. Do your best and trust Him for the rest.
These two verses and this entire context is packed with insights on spiritual, physical and mental health. They spill over into relational and financial health. They are all based on a proper view of God. He is for you and not against you!
When you recognized that you are favored and blessed by God, you never do life alone again. This basic faith and view of life is a game changer! It gives birth to hope, love and joy.
Life suddenly becomes about God and others rather than self. This imparts value and purpose. These can be looked at as raven wings. Suddenly you can fly during times that ground others with anxiety, worry and stress.
If life has got you down, consider the ravens and let them teach you some valuable lessons!
