The Point of No Return:
“28) Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but they will not find me, 29) Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord. 30) They would not accept my counsel, They spurned all my reproof. 31) So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way And be satiated with their own devices. 32) For the waywardness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them. 33) But he who listens to me shall live securely And will be at ease from the dread of evil.”” Proverbs‬ ‭1‬:‭28‬-‭33‬ ‭
Solomon closes Proverbs chapter one by warning that a life is a tragic thing to waste. Those who hate knowledge, forsake wisdom and refuse the fear of the Lord are destined for a life of ruin.
But you protest; “There are plenty of examples of people who have become wealthy and successful apart from God!” Quite right, but wealth and success do not in themselves equal happiness, nor do they fill the “god void” created in every person.
Unfortunately, the book of Ecclesiastes testified that Solomon himself throw wisdom and caution to the wind and descended into the pits he himself warned about. He wasted much of his life on empty pursuits.
The spooky thing about the way Proverbs chapter one ends is that it warns there can be a point of no return. Many become so deceived, spiteful and calcified they refuse to ever consider the truth about God.
