So what about the books of Enoch and Jubilees?
“14) It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, 15) to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”” Jude 1:14-15
I am getting many questions in recent years about the book of Enoch, the book of Jubilees and other writings not included in the modern Protestant Bible. The end time flood gates are being opened. Let’s face these questions head on.
It should be noted that these books were included in the 1611 King James Translation. The Ethiopian Bible which was not affected by western influences still has them in their Bible. Portions of the book of Enoch and Jubilees were found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. This points to their ancient origin.
In the above text, Jude clearly quoted from the book of Enoch. This implies that the early church was familiar with the book of Enoch.
So how do I approach these books? I look at them as valid ancient manuscripts that have historical value. I do not put them on the level of Inspired Scripture. I do not preach or teach from them. I have casually read them and appreciate the fact that they undergird the biblical record.
This is especially true when it comes to understanding the world that perished during the flood of Noah. The two books mentioned above clarify Genesis 6, help explain the angels that fell and the origin of the Nephilim.
Both 2 Peter 2:4-5 and Jude 6-7 present the same biblical interpretation of these events. But let me fill in the bigger historical picture that caused these books and many Bible stories to be scorned and challenged by modern critics.
As the theory of evolution gained a following in the west, a philosophy known as “naturalism” became the new world view. It basically screamed that there is a natural explanation for everything and there is no longer a place for the existence of God or the supernatural realm in understanding and interpreting history.
Soon, this view was adopted by western theologians. As it gained momentum both in secular and sacred circles, it gave rise to atheism, naturalism and humanism.
What was the outcome? Shortly a movement called “higher criticism” was birthed that set out to remove everything supernatural from the Bible and get rid of all ancient writing that suggested a Supernatural view of history and the origin of life.
Nothing was left untouched by the zeal of this movement. Even the fossil records were scrubbed and sanitized. For example, the Bible talks about giants in the earth. A number of giant skeletons were found during the founding of the United States, but after being turned over to notable universities and museums, they suddenly vanished. Why? They challenged the evolutionary narrative and gave credence to the Bible. There are hundreds of other examples of this zealous purging.
So let’s get back to our subject. The books of Jubilee, Enoch and other extant historical manuscripts do not fit a naturalistic world view. They present a very supernatural view of history. They challenge the theory of evolution and testify to the existence of both God and the devil.
In fact, all writings of antiquity challenge the modern naturalistic world view. Caution is highly advised because after the fall Satan set out to deceive nations with many false religions.
I follow the biblical historical record as undergirded strongly by the book of Jubilees and the book of Enoch. I reject the human origin narratives from the Sumerian clay tablets, Egyptian hieroglyphics and the Mayan ruins. These portray Satan’s attempt to deceive humanity. He did a thorough job of deceiving entire ancient civilizations. (See Romans 1:18-32)
So let me summarize. All historical records from every civilization undergird a Supernatural world view and strongly contest the fable of modern naturalism. Every civilization has a story of the flood.
The biblical text presents the true historical record and God’s plan for the salvation of humanity. Other ancient religious writings contain Satan’s lies and conspiracy to corrupt and deceive humanity.
The modern surge of interest in these subjects point to Satan’s end time conspiracy of confusion, but it also presents an open door for the gospel to those prepared to answer sincere questions.
The surge of interest in this subject proves another point; the boat of naturalism has many leaks and is sinking fast. People are searching for other answers.
For the Christian who face these questions head on, this represents a huge open door for the gospel. The book of Jude is more important today than any time in church history.
We need to contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. (Jude 3-4) The Bible is the anchor of truth. All other historical writings must be filtered through the proven biblical text.
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and I love His Word as recorded in the Bible. I meditate on it day and night. Through the study of the Bible you can know the truth and be set free. (John 8:31-32)
