The Holy Spirit and Liberty:
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17
The context relates to Moses, the Law and spiritual blindness. It is possible to read the Law, be religious and yet be blind and lost. Anyone can be legalistic and blind like a Pharisee.
But when a man or woman becomes a Spirit filled believer, an inner light is turned on. They move from legalism to an overflow of Spirit life. Godliness begins to flow from within. The fruit of the Spirit automatically fulfills the righteousness of the Law.
This theme is developed in Romans eight. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus sets the believer free from the Law of sin and of death. They are filled with a new inner nature based on the indwelling Holy Spirit.
According to John 7:37-39, an inner river begins to flow from deep within. It comes from the Holy Spirit. It fulfills the Law without legalism or condemnation. It sets the believer free.
