The Holy Spirit as the Inner Intercessor: Romans 8:26-30
“26) Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26 ESV
One of the inner ministries of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is intercessory prayer. He intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words. Can you imagine, the Holy Spirit is our inner resident prayer warrior?
The next verse says; “27) “and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Jesus is in constant communications with our inner intercessor and He in turn prays for us according to the will of God. This is suddenly unfathomable. What’s the outcome?
The next verse says; “28) And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” No wonder God steers all things together for good in our lives as believers.
So let me ask a question; why would any believer be resistant to the inner ministry of the Holy Spirit? To the contrary, I want to unleash the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life. I want nothing to hinder, grieve or quench Him.
My ambition and goal is to harmonize with the Inner Intercessor without ceasing. This adds insight to “praying in the Spirit!” This is the only way we have any chance to fulfill 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22! Take a moment and reflect on that text.
