The Command to Wait: Acts 1:4
“4) Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;” Acts 1:4
The Promise was accompanied by the command to “Wait.” They were to wait in Jerusalem until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit
According to Acts 1:14, as they waited, they prayed. There was about one hundred and twenty of them. The early church was launched from an extended time of prayer. They literally prayed in the day of Pentecost. But prayer did not end there.
The early church was conceived, launched, fueled and sustained by prayer. The problem with the modern church is often associated with a lack of prayer and waiting on God for an out pouring of the Holy Spirit.
If you want the Promise of fire in your life, learn to wait on God in Prayer. Waiting on God in prayer became the ongoing practice of the early church. Read also Acts 2:42; 4:23-31; 6:4; 13:1-4. Waiting on God in prayer was the spiritual secret for power and the leading of the Holy Spirit in the early church.
