The Promise From Jesus about the Holy Spirit.
We now want to look at some key texts where Jesus promised the coming ministry of the Holy Spirit. When taken together, these are very compelling texts of Scripture. Something new and exciting was coming.
John 3:1-8 John 4:23-24 John 7:37-38 John 14:12-18 John 14:25-26 John 15:26-27 John 16:5-15 Luke 24:49 Acts 1:3-8
When you study the past three sections, you discover an eye opening truth. The Father, John the Baptist and Jesus all promised the coming ministry of the Holy Spirit. It was central to their teaching.
These promises were fulfilled on the day of Pentecost. We are now living in the New Covenant. We are now living in the age of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
As we shall see in coming sections, this promise changed everything. Being born again of the Holy Spirit was the climax of the work of Redemption. This is the new wine that Jesus spoke about. (Mathew 9:14-17)
The indwelling Holy Spirit makes it possible for the believer to be filled up to all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19), and become a partaker of the of the divine nature. (2 Peter 1:4)
These two thoughts are so profound they almost sound heretical, but that’s exactly what the New Testament teaches. The Promise was about to radically change sinful people into becoming the temple of the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19-20)
Take your time and study and pray through all of the texts of Scripture presented in the past three sections. God is trying to tell us something. We desperately need to live and walk in the full benefits of “The Promise.”
Nothing is more tragic than for Christians to be ignorant of “The Promise.” Satan will do anything to keep Christians from understanding “The Promise” so as to not walk in the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Ignorance of “The Promise” is a sentence to a life of sinful bondage in the flesh. It is possible to be a carnal Christian and fall short of “The Promise.” Don’t let it happen to you!
