The Promise of The Father: Acts 1:1-5
“1) The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2) until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. 3) To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. 4) Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; 5) for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”” Acts 1:1-5
So what did Jesus talk about with His disciples after His resurrection? According to this text, He focused on two subjects.
First, He was speaking of things concerning the kingdom of God. (Vs 3) This is a very interesting subject packed with meaning and mystery.
Second, He was speaking of the Promise of the Father. (Vs 4-5) This related to the coming ministry of the Holy Spirit which was about to happen at Pentecost.
I would argue that these two subjects are related. It is impossible to enter into kingdom living apart from walking in the Spirit.
The entire earthly ministry of Jesus was aimed at opening the door for people to step into kingdom living in the Power of the Holy Spirit. It shocks me how many believers know nothing of this subject.
We will spend time over the next several weeks exploring the Promise of the Father. Prepare yourself for an exciting biblical study.
