The Omniscience of God: Psalm 139:1-6
“1) O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2) You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. 3) You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. 4) Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all. 5) You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.” Psalms 139:1-6
It is impossible to do justice to Psalm 139 with just one or two posts. It breaks nicely into four sections.
In verses 1-6, David deals with the Omniscience of God. He is all knowing. But in these verses, David made it personal. He wrestled with the question; “How does this apply to me?”
David Concluded:
He knows small things about us like when we rise up or sit down.
He understands our thoughts, motives, hurts and emotions.
He knows our character and why we do the things that we do.
He is intimately acquainted with all of our ways.
He knows our thoughts and words even before we speak them.
He knows everything about us. In fact, He knows us better than we know ourselves.
Yet, He loves and takes care of us. He is for us and not against us.
David was overwhelmed by these thoughts. They were to wonderful to comprehend! They influenced him to return and walk close with God!
