The Long Term Influence of One Godly Man or Woman. Psalm 138
“1) I will give You thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to You before the gods. 2) I will bow down toward Your holy temple And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name. 3) On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. 4) All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O Lord, When they have heard the words of Your mouth. 5) And they will sing of the ways of the Lord, For great is the glory of the Lord. 6) For though the Lord is exalted, Yet He regards the lowly, But the haughty He knows from afar.” Psalms‬ ‭138‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭
Altogether, Psalm 138 is eight verses long. It speaks of God’s favor and goodness to David because of his faithfulness to seek and proclaim God.
David was a writer. He wrote many of the Psalms. He was quoted often in the New Testament. Think of his amazing influence for God down through the millenniums to this very time.
Many kings, world leaders and nations have read his writings and been pointed to God and the gospel through them. As David wrote in this Psalm of the impact of his writings and the Word of God, he had no idea how they would far out live him.
Though David had his weaknesses, for the most part he remained true to God even in the face of many enemies and stiff opposition. As verse eight says; “The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
So what does this have to do with you and me? Be faithful, serve God and stay humble and your impact will far out live your life. Only eternity can calculate what God can do through one man or women fully consecrated to Him. Purpose to live your life to glorify God and not yourself.
