Remember the Great Deeds of God: Psalm 114
“1) When Israel went forth from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language, 2) Judah became His sanctuary, Israel, His dominion. 3) The sea looked and fled; The Jordan turned back. 4) The mountains skipped like rams, The hills, like lambs. What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? 6) O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? 7) Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, Before the God of Jacob, 8) Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water.” Psalms 114:1-8
It is good to look back and remember where you came from. Israel had a great start coming out of Egypt. The saw the plagues on Egypt. They witnessed the sea parting. They even saw God provide water from the rock.
But they quickly turned from Him. They rebelled. They refused to keep His Law. They drifted away from Him.
The problem was not with God. He did not loose His power. He provided them with manna every morning.
They let their hearts drift. They lost their focus. They let the “awe” of God slip away. Their hearts became dull.
The writer of this Psalm is begging them to remember where they came from. They had gone from slavery to freedom and yet they forgot God.
Don’t think it cannot happen to you! Take time to look back. Clear some time daily to focus on God. Keep the fire burning.
