Creation Declares His Majesty: Psalm 104
“1) Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty, 2) Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. 3) He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind; 4) He makes the winds His messengers, Flaming fire His ministers. 5) He established the earth upon its foundations, So that it will not totter forever and ever.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭104‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭
Psalm 104 is very thought provoking. It is an introduction to natural science. It points out that everything God created declares His greatness and majesty. It points to the greatness of the Creator.
It reminds me of a much broader version of Romans 1:19-20. When you take a panoramic view of creation, it points to the existence and divine nature of God. The universe is a mystery if the intelligent designer is left out of the equation.
This is often called “the external witness of God.” God left a witness of Himself in everything He created. His finger prints can be seen everywhere by the unbiased observer.
The more you study the universe, our solar system, planet earth, the biosphere with its vast verity of life, DNA, molecular science and how everything is interdependent and works together, the more it testifies to the greatness of the Creator. Some call it the “God Hypothesis!”
Planet earth is favored by God! The writer of this Psalm concludes there’s something special about this place. It is the crown jewel of His creation. This Psalm even wrestles with the mystery of life and death. It is a very thought provoking chapter in the Bible.
I am convinced, if the writer of this Psalm could be translated to this present time with all the advantages of modern science and technology, he would come to the same conclusion: Everything points to the existence and divine nature of God. I will sing His praise as long as I live. (Psalm 104:33-34)
