Seven Steps of Decisive Action to Purify Your Life: Psalm 101
“1) I will sing of lovingkindness and justice, To You, O Lord, I will sing praises. 2) I will give heed to the blameless way. When will You come to me? I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart. 3) I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not fasten its grip on me. 4) A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil.” Psalms 101:1-4
Out of nowhere, we suddenly have another Psalm of David. In this Psalm he shares his zeal to clean up his own heart and life and to purge the land from evil and wicked people.
He proposed seven things in these eight verses. This list is profound even by New Testament standards. Let’s examine the list carefully.
First, he would live in such a way as sing praises to God.
Second, he would give heed to living the blameless way.
Third, he would walk with integrity in his heart.
Forth, he would set not worthless thing before his eyes.
Fifth, he would cut off anything that contributed to a perverse heart.
Sixth, he would surround himself with faithful and godly people.
Finally, he would remove faithless and wicked people from his administration and the land.
This list should be followed by every Christian who wants to put off the old self and put on the new self. (See Ephesians 4:22-24)
The list in Psalm 101 is amazing. The inner battle can be intense. Personal freedom and purity requires decisive action. You need to take control of your inner life and pick carefully those who have major influence in your life!
