Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving and His Courts with Praise: Psalm 100
“1) Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. 2) Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. 3) Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4) Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. 5) For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭100‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭
I look at Psalm 100 as another psalm of praise and adoration. We are called to serve Him with gladness and come before Him with joyful singing.
It is a call for Gods people to forget about themselves and focus on Him. We are to acknowledge Him as our maker and shepherd.
I recognize the physical temple was standing at this time. Entering His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise was most likely a reference to the temple grounds.
But I also read this with Hebrews eight and nine in mind. I recognize the physical temple was a mere shadow of a heavenly reality. I do believe the godly are invited into the courts of heaven in the Spirit.
That makes Psalm 100 multigenerational. It makes it a call to all believers to prayer, praise and intercession. We are called to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh.
Those who answer this call can enter the heavenly courts of the Lord. Because of Jesus we can come boldly before the throne of grace. (See Hebrews 4:14-16)
