All of Creation Sings in Praise to God. Psalm 98
“1) O sing to the Lord a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him. 2) The Lord has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3) He has remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 4) Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. 5) Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, With the lyre and the sound of melody. 6) With trumpets and the sound of the horn Shout joyfully before the King, the Lord. 7) Let the sea roar and all it contains, The world and those who dwell in it. 8) Let the rivers clap their hands, Let the mountains sing together for joy 9) Before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth; He will judge the world with righteousness And the peoples with equity.” Psalms 98:1-9
Caution: this Psalm is going to stretch you. It encompasses a call for a new song, only this time the worship team includes loud musical instrument with the sea, the rivers and the mountains clapping in harmony. Everything God made joins in a symphony of praise to God.
Of His earthly creation, man stands alone in his sin and rebellion against God. It is mankind that refuses to sing and dance of the glory of God.
But when a man or woman turns to the Lord and are filled with the Holy Spirit, they are invited to join the praise team. (See Ephesians 5:18-21) The Holy Spirit puts songs of praise into the hearts of His people.
I like the story of the triumphant entry of Jesus entering into Jerusalem as recorded in Luke 19:28-40. As the multitudes were singing and dancing before Jesus, some Pharisees came to Jesus and told Him to silence the crowd. Listen to His response; “40) … I tell you, if these be silent, the rocks will cry out.” Even the rocks recognized Him.
Paul touches briefly on the same theme in Romans 8:18-25. Read this text several times. All of Creation is waiting for humanity to catch up in praise and recognition of the Creator.
I can only imagine the praise and harmony of planet earth during the millennium kingdom when Jesus rules planet earth for a thousand years. (Revelation 20) I believe planet earth will come together in perfect harmony and praise to God. Isaiah 11:6-9 gives a glimpse of those coming days.
Suddenly, Psalm 98 takes on new meaning. All of creation will join in perfect praise and harmony to God. The sea will roar, the rivers will clap, the rocks will cry out and the mountains will sing together in praise to God.
Why wait? If you are among the redeemed, show up now for the rehearsals. Learn the new songs. Drop your inhibitions and learn to praise and worship God. It will radically change your life! It might even put some dancing in your feet.
When I first started traveling internationally and was introduced to lively praise and worship in India, Africa and South America, I silently asked in my inhibitions, “What’s wrong with these people that they sing and dance during worship?”
Without my knowing, they were looking at our statue like worship and were asking themselves; “What’s wrong with these Americans that they have nothing to sing and dance about in the presence of God?”
It took some time, but their joy became contagious. Jesus liberated me and dressed me in garments of praise.
If you get embarrassed with people who get excited and animated in praise and worship, don’t sit very close to me. I cherish Jesus and get excited during inspirational worship services. Even when context forces me to be still, my spirit is dancing within me.
