The Eternal Majesty of God: Psalm 93
“1) The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. 2) Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. 3) The floods have lifted up, O Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. 4) More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The Lord on high is mighty. 5) Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O Lord, forevermore.” Psalms‬ ‭93‬:‭1‬-‭5‬
This is one of the shorter Psalms. It declared the eternal majesty of God over the world He created. From eternity past to eternity future, He reigns from His throne.
One can imagine the writer sitting by the ocean and hearing the waves constantly breaking against the shore. He then compares this sound to the absolute consistency of God. He is more reliable than the breakers of the sea. The Psalmist captured the faithful cadence of God over the world.
The writer saw God as constantly in motion and constantly in control. He is the sustainer. From His throne He rules over the earth. His decrees go forth and they are fulfilled.
Because He could look back through time and see the faithfulness of God, He could look forward with confidence in the same goodness, faithfulness and holiness of God ruling the future. He concluded that God is always in control.
