The Mystery of Time: Psalm 90
“1) Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2) Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. 3) You turn man back into dust And say, “Return, O children of men.” 4) For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night.
12) So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” Psalms‬ ‭90‬:‭1‬-‭4‬, ‭12‬ ‭
We often loose our perspective because we think we are in control. We live as if we are immortal. This Psalm removes that kind of toxic thinking.
It establishes that only God is from everlasting to everlasting. He inhabits eternity. His view of time is very different from ours. A thousand years in his sight is like yesterday when it passes by.
So the outcome is that every day matters. We need to invest our time well. We need to member our days so that we might gain a heart of wisdom.
Some compare time and money. They note we can spend both! Yes, but the problem is you can always get more money, you cannot get more time. Once spent, time is gone forever!
