The Miracle Story of Haiti
GoServ Global has been working in Haiti since 2010 after the big earthquake. Since Covid, it’s been difficult getting into Haiti and the government has collapsed with gangs taking over Porta Prince. The past few years many mission organization have left, while the black market has caused huge inflation. Horror stories abound.
But this past week I have personally witnessed the miraculous side of the story. I am bursting with excitement over what God is doing in South Haiti. Let me summarize the story.
As many of you know, God led GoServ Global to work in the La Cays area after the big 2010 earthquake. We’ve built orphanages, a hospital, a large Christan School, a birthing center, several church buildings, over 600 houses and helped many other churches and ministries.
This whole time we dignified Haitians and put them in charge. We came as their servants and not “Masters” from America. We flew the GoServ Global flag very low in Haiti. From the beginning we wanted to serve and empower them to reach and care for their own people.
About six years ago, we started tackling the problem of mass competition, discord and division among the Haitian believers. It was one of the tragic consequences of many groups from the United States doing cheap trips to Haiti and starting their own works. They created harsh turf mentality and divided the Haitian believers into small segmented groups with fierce independence and defined boundaries.
Six years ago we started our first pastors conference. We knew it would take a miracle to get pastors to come together, but it started happening in a big way.
I was personally present for the first three pastors conferences. We started with only sixty pastors. The next year we were around 120. That was huge because walls and barriers between Haitian churches were coming down.
I gradually started inviting Haitian Pastors to speak to Haitians. It was risky, but proved to be providential. The next three years I was unable to return because of Covid and then political unrest. Yet we decided to fully fund the pastors conference because momentum was building. Last year, we made it to Florida, but was turned back. The conference continued without us.
What we encountered last week was miraculous. Over 340 pastors registered. I did minimal speaking allowing time for emerging Haitian leaders. The pastor wives day had over 600 present. Youth day was also packed.
Each evening featured a Bible Conference for the general public. The three hour service was again packed. People came great distances for this unique event and many lodged in the school class rooms at the Consolation Center.
Feeding the crowd of nearly 1,000 staff, orphans, pastors, wives, children and the community every day was also miraculous at today’s inflated prices. The very blessed agriculture endeavor at the Consolation Center helped fill the huge demand for food. For some, it was the best food they’ve had in weeks.
Let me fast forward. A miracle is unfolding in our region of South Haiti. We witnessed an alive Haitian church step up in this moment of need. Though 85% of the American mission works have closed and left Haiti in the past five years, God is pouring out His Spirit on the Haitian Church. Walls are coming down between pastors and churches!
Altogether, I estimate over 2,500 different people participated in the various events this past week which included the pastors conference, a huge woman’s event, a graduation ceremony for the first class of Bible School students, youth events and the evening Bible Conference.
Most important, it was all planned, organized and promoted by Haitians. I counted only five Americans present for any event and our team numbered three. Two local YWAM staff were also present for some services and helped with the youth conference. One is married to a godly Haitian woman.
What God is currently doing in Haiti is unprecedented and miraculous. The conference has now become an annual indigenous event with almost no mention of American Mission Groups. It is starting to impact much of the Christian community in south Haiti. Momentum is building.
On another note, God is also richly blessing our growing agriculture endeavor of around 80 acres. It is providing three meals a day for our orphans and staff, plus one meal a day for the 1,300 students who attend the Christan School when it is in session.
Walking through the Consolation Center was mind-bending. It has grown beyond recognition. It includes the best fully staffed hospital in the area, crucial orphan care, a Christian School for 1,300 students and now even a three year Bible Training School and agriculture training.
The Consolation Center was originally built in a dangerous area near Les Cayes. It has now been transformed into the most blessed region in the whole area. God is using the Consolation Center to spark revival and awakening in the whole south of Haiti.
One of the core values of GoServ Global is to equip and train nationals to reach and care for their own people. The Consolation Center and our many other works in Haiti are 100% Haitian staffed, managed and led. That includes the Birthing Center and three other villages with thriving indigenous churches.
I’ve worked around the world, few places compares to what God is currently doing in South Haiti for the gospel. Hundreds of churches are being influenced and thousands are now being impacted with the gospel.
Because of gang activity controlling Port au Prince and the collapse of the government, inflation is insane. The black market controls prices. The Capital is very dangerous.
But by Gods amazing grace, the geography of Haiti means only one road travels from Port au Prince to the South. The Gangs are controlling supplies from the north, but the South is effectively blocking the gangs controlling the capital from entering. The police and local government in the South are doing a great job of screening people and maintaining control.
The combined results are a steady migration to the South, insane inflation and the perception in the rest of the world that all of Haiti is dangerous and has collapsed. But that is not the case. To the contrary, God is beginning to work in unprecedented ways.
The actual disaster and violence is concentrated in Port au Prince. The rest of the country has a good degree of tranquility and business as usual, but most American missions groups have packed up and left.
God is causing this to all work together for good within the Haitian church. The results are the beginning of Revival and awakening within some regions of Haiti. The Haitian church is stepping up and gaining a sense of responsibility, autonomy, cooperation and unity. Gifted Haitian pastors, leaders and musicians are emerging and working together across artificial denominational lines.
Haiti is becoming a huge success story for GoSev Global. Without bias, I can say Haiti is currently the greatest ROI (Return on Investment) for mission giving through GoServ Global. The impact for the gospel extents way beyond my wildest dreams and grasp.
To the glory of God, our Consolation Center has become ground zero of what God is doing across the south. What I witnessed this past week is miraculous beyond description. I came prepared for the worst and was met by the most glorious stories of my fifty years in ministry.
I was still trying to wrap my mind around the full impact of the Consolation Center, when we made a trip to another facility called Zion we acquired in 2018. A host group from the United States abruptly pulled out leaving nearly 100 orphans and a Christian School with no food or support.
One of our leaders, Conwell Larson was in Haiti and heard about the crisis and decided to visit to get the details. He shortly brought two other GoServ Global Board members to visit the facility. Ken DeYoung and Rick Brown both agreed we needed to take action and we adopted the ministry.
Shortly Covid hit and closed down trips to Haiti. I had heard about Zion but never visited. With total Haitian leadership over the past six years the facility has greatly expanded in the area.
It now has eight dorms for orphans, a primary school, a secondary school and a university. Over 650 students from region now access quality education. They also recently completed a large new church building to replace the one damaged by an earthquake. Many new class rooms are also under construction. The next goal is a Medical Center like the one at the Consolation Center.
But costs for us have soared in Haiti while financial support has dropped. Orphan sponsorships have dwindled as trips to Haiti have become difficult. This is the greatest hour for the emerging indigenous Haitian Church, but they desperately need our financial help.
One hundred percent of every gift given through GoServ Global for Haiti goes to Haiti and this amazing gospel work. They are frugal, resourceful, and leveraging every dollar for the glory of God. Please help fan the flames of revival and awakening in Haiti at this crucial hour. They desperately need our help.
Here are a few suggestions:
Sponsor an orphan for $175 a month. We have many new and unsponsored orphans.
Sponsor an orphan graduate through trade school: $200 a month for 8-12 months. (This includes tools and lodging)
Sponsor meals and lodging for some pastor’s and Bible Conferences attendees next year $20 each. (We expect 2,500 people)
