The Fallacy of Two Masters: Luke 16:12-13
“12) And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? 13) No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”” Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭
These short little Proverbs were beginning to expose the Pharisees. They were being peeled back like an onion.
Instead of seeing themselves as servants of the people, they had become rulers of the people. Through oppression they were getting rich off the temple service. Ministry had become a fast track to the good life. Sadly, many of them were serving money and not God.
But they were not alone. Money has become god to many people. It can displace God quickly. It promises the good life. Serving money can become intoxicating.
Guard your heart. You cannot serve two masters.
