Psalm 23 is known by more people than any other chapter in the Bible. It is only six verses long, but is made up of 19 phrases. It is packed with meaning. Let’s walk through it phrase by phrase and see if we can squeeze some fresh meaning from it. I cherish the 18 promises packed into this Psalm for those who know and love God! This Psalm was David’s life testimony.
Vs 1
1. “The Lord: that’s Divine Being
My Shepherd: that’s Belonging and Relationship!
“I shall not want” – that’s Supply and Contentment.
Vs 2
“He makes me lie down in green pastures” – that’s Rest and Provision.
“He leads me beside quiet waters” – that’s Peace and Tranquility!
Vs 3
“He restores my soul” – that’s inner Healing and Restoration.
“He guides me in the paths of righteousness” – that’s Direction and Purpose
“For His names sake” – that’s Glory, Praise and Worship
Vs 4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death” – that’s Trials and Testing!
10” I fear no evil” – that’s Confidence and Assurance!
“For Thou art with me” – that’s Presence and Faithfulness
“Thy rod and thy staff” – that’s Protection and Discipline!
“They comfort me” – that’s Acceptance, Approval and Assurance!

“Thou dost prepare a table for me” – that’s Celebration and Promotion.
“in the presence of my enemies” – that’s Vengeance and Public Affirmation!
“Thou hast anointed my head with oil” – that’s Consecration, Anointing and Unction!
“My cup overflows” – that’s Filling and Abundance!
Vs 6
18. “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life” – that’s Favor and Blessing!
“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” – that’s Eternity!
Conclusion: Jesus is my Good Shepherd, He has faithfully shepherded me through life! (Thank you Jesus!)
