Manuel Update:
Because of ongoing fatigue and periodic chest pains, I encouraged Manuel to have another cardio tests done today at another hospital. He brought all of his medical records with him.
He has now been off his medications for two days. The test confirmed his heart function has decreased from 69% to 59%.
The test also confirmed a blockage on the left side of his heart. After examining all of his records and the new test taken today, the doctor encouraged him to leave for Lima immediately.
Because his previous doctor neglected to send his records to Lima, his case was dropped and he is no longer covered by state insurance. He is trying to get it re-established, but they said it would take a new episode in Iquitos and a hospital admission to activate his state insurance again.
Waiting does not seem like an option! It would predictably be fatal.
The first procedure in Lima will cost around $15,000 plus any additional procedures. They need $20,000 in hand before the hospital will take him in as a patient. The first procedure sends a tube into the heart and shows the damage on a screen. If the blockage is small a ballon catheter can try to open the blockage. (Sorry I do not have all the medical terms)
If they determine he needs open heart surgery to remove the blockage, they may be facing an additional $50,000 – $60,000.
Please be in prayer. Heart function is again decreasing. Manuel and Hannah cannot move forward without financial help.
