Update from Hannah:

Update from Jan 20, 2025

“Manuel is stable, glory to God.
They are monitoring for serious hemorrhaging that could result from the injection they gave at the clinic.
He has an infection in his throat and they are running other tests to determine the factors and what we are up against.
So they are in active and preventive care.

There are other things I don’t understand, but the most important is he is stable and being monitored.

I was able to change my c-section for Thursday the 30th ( 4 days after his due date). If baby decides to came earlier I will deal with it as it happens.

Daniel’s surgery also is in the process of getting changed to Feb 10th.

Thank you for all the prayers.”

“Thank you for praying! I have not had time (or emotional space) to read and respond to messages, but I want to acknowledge and publicly thank each of you for your prayers and support. Yesterday was a day I never imagined living. When I got home last night and put Daniel to bed, I tried to sleep, but couldn’t. My mind was flooded with events from the day and trying to sort everything out. Throughout the day, three doctors delivered nothing but bad news. They all said things like:

“It’s a miracle he’s alive.”

“He needs to be life-flighted to Lima tonight, his condition is unstable.”

“It’s a miracle he’s alive.”

“If he stays in Iquitos, it’s a death sentence.”

“His heart is shutting down by the hour”

It was a lot to take in. As I tried to process all the news and knowing to save his life he had to leave, there was the added heartache that I couldn’t go with him because I am 39 weeks pregnant. There were so many emotions, questions and unknowns.

Then the fourth doctor said, “Relax. The other doctors are wrong. Yes, he’s sick, but we can treat him here. He needs to get to Lima for some follow up appointments, but if he stays with the treatment we give him until he can travel, he will be good.”

What? How? I honestly believe God healed his heart yesterday because of so many people surrounding Manuel’s life and health in prayers! This is nothing short of a miracle! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you, for covering Manuel and our family with your prayers. God has worked and is working! We still face unknowns. Since Manuel was transferred to a government hospital, he needs a friend or family member present 24/7 to go get anything the medical staff requires for his care (meds, sheets for the bed, pillows, IVs, needles, toilet paper, etc). Yes! It’s very strenuous. I just went to deliver a list of things the staff were asking for. I was asked to return at 9:30-10:00 to talk with the doctors. I will be able to see Manuel for 5 minutes after the meeting with the doctors and we’ll know more about how he’s doing. We hope to have a game plan after the meeting. I have decided to change Daniel and mine surgeries to later dates (Daniel was scheduled to have his tonsils removed and I had a planned c-section for the 23rd). We appreciate your prayers! Thank you.”

Updated: The Lord is so good!! We don’t know the hows but Manuel’s doctor has decided he doesn’t need to be life flighted to Lima tonight anymore. They plan to keep him in the hospital in Iquitos for the next few days and expect he’ll need to go to Lima for further treatment at a later day. Please keep praying for Hannah and their unborn child, for their son Daniel, and for Manuel as he recovers and is treated. Thank you!!

Our missionaries in Iquitos, Peru, with Lifeline Ministries are asking for your prayers. Debby Baxter just arrived in Peru, South America, for the birth of Hannah and Manuel’s son, scheduled for Thursday. While Hannah was at the airport picking Debby up, her husband Manuel suffered a massive heart attack in church. He went to a hospital in Iquitos where they tried to stabilize him for transport to a hospital in Lima, Peru, but without success.

Manuel is getting worse by the hour. Half of his heart is not working. There is a blockage. A life fight to Lima would need the bill paid up front. That amount will also include the immediate open heart surgery in Lima. After care would be more at the hospital. We need a miracle for him to survive the flight. Please continue to pray.

If you feel led to give to help with Manuel’s medical needs, please give directly to Hannah through venmo (@hrbaxter).
